Two-Hour Presentation

Two-Hour Presentation Student Assessment

(1) What assessment would you give yourself?

AE                      P                      AP                      CR                      NC                      +           -

Why?
I would give myself a P because I followed all the requirements and although my presentation skills weren't as good as some of the other presentations, I think I did well enough because I was charismatic about my topic and they all seemed to catch that.

(2) What is one thing you think you did well in the two-hour and why?
I think I was able to engage the class and make it enjoyable. In some presentations where some of the boys felt left out cause of how girly the topic was, but everyone participated and was actively doing the activities and listening.

PART II: Overall Senior Project Experience

(3) What do you think you did well on in the project?  What could you have done better?
I think I was really good at showing how much I also enjoyed my topic. I really like all my independant components and I had a lot of sound research that will benefit me not only in just the senior project, but life after high school.
I think I could have done a better job at finding service learning, because the overall senior project would have been a little more beneficiary if I had done an internship at an animation company.
(4) What is your EQ and what is the best answer to your EQ?
What is the best way to succeed as an Entertainment Design Artist?
Best answer: A strong Traditional Arts background.

(5) How has the last month of culminating events (e.g. I-Search, Two-Hour, Exit etc) affected your answer to your EQ?  Has it changed?  Why or why not?
When I was putting together all my research for the iSearch, I kind of finalized that having a Strong Traditional Arts background was necessary to succeed as an Entertainment Design Artists, but other than that I did not change, because I had found that answer al ittle bit before the iSearch and Exit.

(6) What suggestions do you have in order to improve the senior project?
One thing that could be improved is maybe starting the senior project a little earlier. I think It would really help out if we had our chosen topic sooner in the year. Also I think there should have been two exit interviews, because I was hearing students complain about how they had to change a lot of stuff about their topic and they only had a few days to finish up their revised iSearch.

(7) Overall Senior Project Assessment

AE                      P                      AP                      CR                      NC                      +           -

Why?
I  think I deserve a P+ because I had turned in all my assignments on time and also did a really good job on my independant components. Overall I think I put alot of thought in my senior project so that it would benefit me in the future as well. I think I made my 2 Hour enjoyable for the students I taught and I think I grew as an artist and a presenter.

Service Learning

Literal

Log: Every Thursday, 2.5 hours (since January 23 to April 21)
Frank has been mentoring me and I have been doing the things he assigns me. At the end of the session I usually help clean up the class.

• Contact Name & Number: Frank Hsu (909)967-9044

InterpretiveWhat is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
I think the most important thing I gained from this experience was all the knowledge I was able to learn about Traditional arts and about how the entertainment industry sort of ran, since Frank had some experience doing product designs. It is important because now I can see how much more I need to learn and stregthen, in order to make it into the Entertainment indstry some day.
AppliedHow did what you did help you answer your EQ? Please explain.
Well because of all the mentoring, Frank basically helped me finalize my best answer to my essential question. He was always telling me to have a really strong foundation in figure drawing, composition and other things. And throughout my research I saw what he meant, even in digital art. I found painting on the computer very similiar to painting on canvas. Frank was the one who told me it would be very beneficial to every artist to learn about painting.

Independant Component #2

1. Log
Art Classes from Feb. 17- April 28, 2011.For 2.5 hours. (Total: 22.5 hours)
Character designs:  30 hours total

2. Posted Evidence
All my completed Art for this component is on a host website that allows artists to upload their work:
http://xrinjiix.deviantart.com/gallery/29950417

3. Complete the LIA:

Literal
(a) Statement saying: “I, Lindsey Western, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.”

(b) I have been continuing my art class by Frank Hsu. We been practicing the basics and color theory mostly. I have finished one  projects (painting) since the last independant component and I am currently finishing up another (colored pencil collage)
I also have been working on different character designs and applying the things Frank has taught me. Ive also done a few digital art projects, which proved to be difficult.

Interpretive
Although the sketches and drawings dont seem like they do not display a significant amount of time, there is a process artist usually follow. I start off with a skeleton and do quick rough sketch, then finalize the drawing. Then I ink it, which takes a lot of patience because some people (like me) dont have the steadiest hands. Inking takes alot of practice, especially if your trying to create very fine lines. The digital works took alot of time because I am not very familiar with using photoshop and all the layer details and options. Lastly the projects from the art class took probably the most time. The acrylic painting took many layers because my teacher really pushed me to experiment with different colors to achieve certain tones and colors.

Applied
By doing all these drawings it has helped me answer my EQ. By doing all the traditional art projects and recieving criticism from my teacher. Ive come to realize that artist need a really strong trad. art background. There were many instances where I didnt know all the things like which color complements which, and how to achieve different shades with those colors, and how to add depth my picture. Also by doing the digital art projects Ive come to realize that traditional art methods are used on the computer. While I was shading the digital pieces, I realized that I was using the tablet much like how I was using a brush and that I was shading the picture with different colors to achieve a darker tone. I also applied lighting techniques and fundamentals in order to figure out how I should highlight and darken my pictures. By doing these projects I realized and also finalized what all my interviewees had said about how Photoshop is just a tool that artist used because its faster, but they still need that strong traditional arts background to create their art, whether its digital or not.

Creative Expressions

Lindsey Western
Topic: Entertainment Art
EQ: What is the best way to Succeed as an Entertainment Design Artist?

Idea: I want to create a concept art poster of a story, but have half of it justa pencil drawing and the other half of it will be digitally done on photoshop.
I have a good idea of how I want it to look like in my head.

Realtionship to EQ: This project relates to my EQ because it will address two my strongest answers:
1) Have a strong Traditional Arts Background
2) Keep up with the technology (photoshop)
Since I will have one half just a traditional pencil drawing and the other half will be digitized.

Independent Study 2 Approval

1) Write a description of what you plan on doing for your second independent study.
I had planned to create seperate sketchbooks for character designs and environment designs for my first independant task, But that idea sort of didnt pull through and I ended up just turning in my Art class projects. So this Independant task I plan to do about three sketchbooks, each with seperate general themes. One sketchbook would contain Character Designs and the other Environment Designs. The last one will be filled with small digital projects, since I have been doing too many traditional art projects.
Also I will continue taking my Art Class with Frank Hsu.

2) How does your independent study 2 relate to your EQ?
It relates to my EQ because It will help me see which of my answers is the best. Since I will be working on Traditional Art and Digital art.
